The author’s and his alone ideas about DAYS are expressed here. They’re usually right on point, properly biting, and amusing.

Every fan has their own perspective about Days of our Lives, and Soap Hub is no different. We watched everything on Days of our Lives for five days—the good, the horrible, and everything in between—and are providing you with a helpful recap and a lighthearted analysis of the episode that was.

Days of our Lives: A View from the Critic

Call it an homage instead. How can TPTB at Days of our Lives [I’m looking at you Ron Carlivati and Ken Corday!] justify celebrating Deidre Hall’s landmark 5,000th episode with the inclusion of a few pitiful scenes within a regular broadcast episode rather than devoting an hour to the majesty that is Marlena Evans Black?

There was still a ton more content they could have highlighted, even if they insisted on sticking with the [ridiculously] jokey wrap-around assumption that Marlena had treated around 5,000 people. But no.

No Jed Allan’s Don Craig. [Recall how they first ranted at one other about her treatment of Mickey?]. There were no memories of Mar Mar’s time working as an on-air therapist (who wouldn’t have wanted to see clips from the episodes where the Salem Strangler called in and gave the hostess a shiver?). Nor the time—make that several times—when Doc Evans unwittingly became a patient at Bayview Sanitarium.

And how could they pass up the chance to think back to when Marlena and John first met, when John wasn’t Drake Hogestyn and his face wasn’t fully covered in bandages.

Really, that was a disgrace. A serious slap in the face to a legendary actress, a legendary character, and the admiring admirers of both.
